India: Fuel shortage caused by Middle East crisis, Pune gas crematorium closed

Date: March 2026

Due to the impact of the Middle East crisis on global fuel supply, the Indian government has prioritized ensuring the supply of liquefied petroleum gas to households, resulting in the temporary closure of the gas crematorium operated by the Pune Municipal Corporation.

The Indian government instructed on March 5, 2026 to prioritize the distribution of propane and butane nationwide for household LPG supply. Affected by this, the Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to suspend the operation of gas cremation furnaces from March 5th until further notice. To ensure that citizens are not affected, the local government has arranged for alternative cremation facilities to continue operating.
